Killzone 3 A New Engine?

After looking for a while for some new dirt on anything Killzone I did manage to find something that has me hyped. According to a few videos of people who went to CES the Killzone franchise is in full swing with Killzone3, and it’s rumored to have an amazing new engine built by Guerrilla Games.
The word around the show was the new engine will be shown behind closed doors at GDC 2010. It’s rumored to have bumped up graphics, and an incredible new physics engine similar to the Battlefield Bad Company engine.Basically it would give you graphics in a FPS similar to Uncharted2 with total environment destruction capability. With this said and as exciting as it would be it is still just talk, but from the people who went to CES they seem fairly sure it’s more then just talk.
Down below is a video from the “HIP HOP Gamer” from youtube who tells about his trip to CES and covers what I have stated up above. Enjoy.

I don’t really think there’s going to be an engine change. I don’t think they’d be able to put in that much work in less than a year.
We’ll you never know Clinton I mean they already had I system in place for the building seen and minor damage to walls and glass. They could have just built up the engine they already had. Plus if it is true Killzone3 in 60 Frames per second would be crazy looking not to mention the Battlefield destruction I know you wouldn’t mind that. PS: Thanx for letting me post Clinton I’ll try to bring something each week to the table if not more.
I spotted this news bit around a few places… but shrugged it off as silly rumor… The whole bit about being in an entirely new engine… I mean, really? Guerrilla spent forever to get Killzone2 up and going, pulling in help from other Sony devs to speed up the process, why would they just up and ditch the entire engine and start from scratch?
If any bit of this is true, I bet any money that it’s still the same Killzone2 engine heavily upgraded and modified to the specs touted by mr “Hip Hop Gamer”. Even then, I’m left scratching my head when I hear GG is showing it off behind closed doors… merely a year after KZ2 was completed.
Sounds good and all but personally I hope they tweak the controls a bit… not to say that they should be like call of duty but I do hope they tighten them up. Also, more guns, more variety in terms of action and how about adding a female character or two. Killzone 2 was a great game but they need to come with more than just better visuals. I do realize its a a little early to jump to conclusions based on the little info we have but I think we can all agree that most gamers will be most interested on how the game plays rather than graphics next time around.
While all that stuff would be great Jsm_BK it could be added just through story line and not through engine. Like the guns, and characters and stuff, but tweaking the controls…. hmmm I think maybe what they should do is make to sets of controls. One that runs like it did in Killzone2 with the heavy feel, and one with more of a CoD or MW2 feel. Even though I personally think that takes something from the experience a lot of people are always put off if this FPS doesn’t feel exactly like Cod or Modern Warfare. Constantly appealing to the average gamer is fine but if it always happens gaming will never evolve.
Like the Auto creator Ford said if he would have asked his consumer want they wanted they would have said a faster horse.
They will tweak the controls to satisfy the average gamer, no doubt. This was the major problem for many people in Killzone 2, and set many people off the game. It wouldn’t make any sense for them to keep the same control scheme from the last game, when so many people hated it.
Just keeping the game different for the sake of being different from other shooters will not help the Killzone 3′s sales.Just like any developer and publisher, they want to make as much money physically possible for the thier game. There is nothing wrong with that statement, its just how the gaming industry works.
No doubt Razor but my hope is they put both sets of controls in so you can pick, and possibly set the Cod/MW controls in as the default. Me personally I really enjoyed the heavy feel Killzone2 had and I think helped immersed you better for it. My hope is that they just don’t scrap that control system all together, but only time will tell.
I hope that happens. Scrapping the kz2 control scheme altogether would be a mistake on their part.
Its probably a upgraded engine from Kz2. its expensive building engines nowadays so im guessing the Kz2 engine has been significantly upgraded to the point where you describe. besides it be a waste to just drop the kz2 engine and make another one its just a waste in my opinion make one game then drop it…. seems a little bit ludacris this isnt the ps2 era anymore where they can do it without so much of a hit financially the gains seems great for us consumers but for the developers its just bad business…all in my opinion …
yep that is probally what they did. Most likely any new engine is built off the foundation of the old one. Like Unreal 3 engine use to be 2 and 1. LOL I think I speak for all of us that I would be just as happy with New DLC chapters added to this game every 2 months.
