To Plus or Not to Plus?

I purchased Playstation Plus the week it came out and even though not all they have offered has appealed to me I thought I would list some of the stuff that has. So far from weeks one and two in the US we have received a lot for our Plus subscriptions. In total 1 full PSN title, 5 Avatars, 2 theme, 2 PSP minis, 1 Episode of Qore, A bunch of games on sale, and a lot of PSN DLC for free or heavily discounted. For me I have downloaded 38 dollars Worth of content within 2 weeks, and I left a lot of the free DLC packs go. I spent 50$ on 1 year and 3 months for the Plus subscription and by now they already have at least 50 dollars of value on the table with less then a moth in. If you cant see the savings in that then WTF?
Also as I mentioned before Plus subscribers received the new Qore, and without a doubt this episode was awesome with a sit down to look at the new game we are all waiting for Killzone3. Below is a video of the interview so enjoy! Also under the video is my top five Reasons for picking up Playstation Plus even if you think its not all that. (Cough Cough Clinton)
Death’s Top 5 Reason’s to Invest in Playstation Plus
#5. Themes and Avatars – While themes and avatars are just cosmetic to the PS3 and the interface its still a snazzy touch that some prefer. So far this month we have received 2 themes, and 5 avatar and If each month we averaged only 1 theme and 3 avatar the Projected value for the next 15 months would = 44.40
#4. Qore – Although a lot of people might not be into the idea of an online magazine Qore is so much more. Qore is what I wish Sony would do as a type of weekly show letting you get behind closed doors to game studios like Eat Sleep Play, Criteria games, Sucker Punch, and Guerrilla Games. For this reason and the great in depth interviews you get I think it’s a form of media that can’t be over looked. Projected value for the next 15 months = $44.85
#3. Demo and Beta access and Full Game Trials – Early demo access is cool, and while there might be a few big demos released early to Plus that will be nice I think the Beta access is the real selling point in this category. I’m going to be a little bias to be honest on the beta side for the simple fact when Killzone 3 beta tests Plus members will have a guaranteed spot in the action, as well as games like Socom4 , and the Assassins Creed 3 betas. For that there isn’t a price it gives us, but it is Worth a lot to me even though it comes out to no actual value in the end.
#2. Free Games and DLC – Free Games and DLC is almost the biggest selling factor on Plus considering a lot of the value is in that alone. With at least 1 mini, 1 full PSN title, and 1 DLC pack a month for free it is easily the top value out of all the features offered to date. So far we have gotten way more then that in the first 2 weeks alone, and I have a feeling that trend will continue for a while. Even if it we get minis at $3.99 a month, PSN titles at $9.99 a month, and DLC around $9.99 a month you are talking about a sum in the next 15 months that = $359.55
#1. The Future of Plus – Playstation Plus’s biggest upside is you never know what might be announced for it next. There is already early reports of news and websites being told at E3 that features like cross game chat are coming for Playstation Plus subscribers. The future will bring many more games, more features, and more of anything you can think of to the PSN. Who knows maybe Plus will expand into HOME, or the Web Browser. It’s anyone’s guess what Sony has planned for the future, but with all that said when you total all the low estimate up you are left with a total value of around 450$. When you compare that to the Xbox Live service it isn’t even a competition. Let me know what your thoughts on Plus are below.

This looks awesome, Mate get Playstation plus pretty soon on this :]
I’m on Clintons side. For me personally it’s not worth it.
To attack your top 5 list:
5 – I like the occasional dynamic theme, but have only purchased 1 premium avatar and thus my total for the entire lot is >$10, no wheres near your estimate $44.40 which I assume is if I got each and every offering? Who’s out to do that?
4 – Being tech savy myself (lol… like it takes skill to follow an RSS feed
), I get all the info I need from various sources, without the need to wait for the end/start of the month to get it in one big video show. I’ve tried Qore… I don’t like qore.
3 – Early Demo access is kewl. That said, I can wait the extra couple weeks or w/e it is for normal users. Betas mean nothing to me. Honestly, I’ve got NO problem waiting for a full game, NTM I’ve got tons of other great titles to play in teh mean time.
2 – There is a catch to those “Free Games” as Sony outlines in their description for Plus, they’re Free only as long as you keep your subscription… that’s shifty and lame IMO. In reality, you’re renting them. Also, not every DLC is going to apply to you.
1 – Future stuff can be kewl, we’ve yet to see. For instance, if Sony announced a cloud like system for game saves and such, you know a little server space on their side that would secure all your important data like that… then I might consider paying $50/yr. Right now, the features don’t add up for me.
Well for those who say its like renting I say if you plan on paying the 50$ a year you will never loose you games. in a few years I will have anywhere from 50 to 100 games i can play at my choosing.
And early beta access isn’t a big deal? I would be willing to sell a piece of my liver to play Killzone 3 beta, and this way is a lot less invasive.
All in all I think if you cant find over 60$ worth of value in a year your trying not to like it. Like some people. Cough cough.
I don’t understand the title of the post. Ps update the category
